Colorado Policy and Legislation Information
With upcoming elections, it is important to keep informed about issues that affect people's lives. If passed, the following proposed amendments and proposition would have a direct impact on children and their families in Colorado:
Proposition 101:
This proposition - "Concerning limits on government charges" - is intended to drastically reduce a wide range of state and local taxes and fees in Colorado. It would slash funding for schools, human services, local emergency services, roads, hospital and clinic services for children and many other services and programs for children and their families. If proposition 101 passed, funding for a student of District 11 would be reduced from $402/year to $6.24 (go here for more information).
Amendment 60:
This amendment would change the state Constitution by making dramatic changes to Colorado's property tax laws. It would cut local support for public schools in half by 2020 and would significantly impact local services such as playgrounds and parks.
Amendment 61:
This amendment would prohibit any debt financing by the state of Colorado, including short term leases and loans that could be used for building hospitals, roads and universities. It would also increase annual costs for local governments.
