Social, Emotional & Behavioral Health
Assessing developmental delays and social emotional and behavioral health in a child has never been easier with the services, resources and information currently available. The following programs offer parents new tools to assist them with the often challenging and confusing roles of parenthood.
Ages & Stages: Social-Emotional
is a parent-completed child monitoring system for social-emotional behaviors. It is a series of 8 questionnaires, with 3-6 month intervals for children 6 months to 5 years. By reviewing the results, professionals can identify young children at risk for social or emotional difficulties, identify behaviors of concern to caregivers, and identify need for further assessment. The complete kit comes in one box and includes a User’s Guide – which contains a Social-Emotional Development Continuum & Activities Guide – and reproducible questionnaires.

Our future depends on the mental health of our children. The National Institute on Mental Health states that one in 10 children suffers from a mental illness severe enough to affect development. Detection and intervention at an early stage is necessary to ensure our kids are growing up to be healthy, contributing members of society.
CDC Data Release Shows Importance of Learning the Signs
CDC released new data that show an average of 1 in every 110 children in certain parts of the United States has an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The data also show that the average age at which children are diagnosed with an ASD is 4 1/2 years. This relatively late age of diagnosis is a reminder of how important it is to be aware of milestones that mark a child’s development and to act early if a delay is suspected. Acting early can make a real difference!
